I’ve never had counselling before what can I expect?
We understand that your first counselling session can be daunting
if you don’t know what to expect. When you phone the Centre
for the first time for counselling you will speak with the Intake
Worker. She will gently begin to find out what the main issues are.
She will also discuss what type of service would be best for you.
While not a counselling session the ‘Intake’ process
is a very good and gentle introduction to counselling. If you have
any concerns about starting counselling talk to the Intake Worker
about them.
All counselling services, including Intake are confidential. To
make your first appointment please call the Centre on (02) 4968
2511.
I’d like to see a counsellor but there’s no
one to mind the kids.
The Hunter Women’s Centre provides childminding for women
who attend day time groups at the Centre. Unfortunately we do not
have the resources to provide childminding for individual appointments.
I’m interested in some of the activities like Circle
Dancing but I don’t want counselling, can I still come?
Of course, have a look at our special interest page for more information
about the activities and groups. Many women from all walks of life
join in the activities at the Centre. You do not have to be a ‘client’
of the Centre to participate.
I’m not a feminist, is the Hunter Women’s Centre
still right for me?
At the Hunter Women’s Centre we have developed our practices
from feminist principles such as equality, justice and empowerment,
but this doesn’t mean you have to be a “feminist”.
We do not ask women about their views of feminism.
I’m worried that my personal details won’t
be kept private if I use the Hunter Women’s Centre services.
All staff at the Hunter Women’s Centre treat all information
as strictly confidential. We have guiding policies and procedures
on confidentiality which are taken very seriously and followed by
all staff of the Hunter Women’s Centre. For more information
